Intrafor’s innovative approach to sustainable development at Tung Chung West Station in Hong Kong

VSL Intrafor has been awarded a new contract by Dragages Hong Kong Limited on Tung Chung West section under the Tung Chung Line Extension project in Hong Kong !

MTR Corporation Limited 香港鐵路有限公司 renews its confidence in Dragages Hong Kong Limited and VSL Intrafor for specialized ground engineering works on the Tung Chung Line Extension. This includes the construction of Diaphragm Walls for the new Tung Chung West Station, TBM Launching Shaft, and TBM Maintenance Plugs, along with ground improvement works at various points along the tunnel alignment.

This project plays a crucial role in the sustainable development of the new town of Tung Chung, located on the north-west coast of Lantau Island, whose population is growing year on year. The extension enhances mobility, linking North Lantau and different districts of Hong Kong and facilitating connectivity within and outside the district.

The primary challenge for VSL Intrafor was to minimize negative impacts on nearby neighborhoods during construction activities.

To address this challenge, VSL introduced an Electric Cutter for the first time in Hong Kong, significantly reducing noise and air pollution, demonstrating a commitment to responsible construction practices.

Approximately 100 dedicated VSL Intrafor staff members will be employed at peak on the project, ensuring that the team is well-prepared to meet the project’s demands.
The works started in October 2023 and are planned to be completed by the end of 2024.
